Rambo: First Blood Part II

Comments: I really liked this game. The graphics seem lame now but after seeing this game I bought the SMS. It is much better than the similar Ikari Warriors that was on the NES at the time. This game was much easier if you used a joystick rather than the gamepad. I used a Wico joystick since the SMS is totally compatible with Atari Joysticks.

R-Type

Comments: A great game and hard as hell. Like many games on the SMS, the poor control of the gamepad made it even harder. This was the best home version of R-Type until the TG16 one came out.

Alex Kidd: the Lost Stars

Comments: Oddly, this sequel to Alex Kidd was just like a Wonder Boy game, while the sequels to Wonder Boy were more like the first Alex Kidd. The only memorable thing about this game was the fuzzy voice that said "Find the miracle ball" at the beginning of each level. Since the voice was so fuzzy, it sounded like "Find the miracle vol".

Comments: This game is not bad but the arcade version was a full 3d game like Outrun. I was disappointed. Of course, a 3d game on the SMS would have sucked anyway.

Fantasy Zone 2

Comments: Sort of a Defender-type game with cartoon graphics. Shooting enemies gives you money you can use to buy upgrades. This is now a well-worn theme but this seems to be one of the first games to use it. I thought this was one of the best SMS games. My sister and I played it way too much. After awhile you got used to the insane speed of the later levels. The colors and graphics are much better than on the first Fantasy Zone. The bosses are very colorful and clever.

Comments: Sort of like Missile Command but not as good. May have been better with a trackball or mouse.

Comments: Graphics are jerky but it was impressive at the time. Follows the Arcade very closely. More levels than the Genesis version.
